Week Four: A Gilpin Smile

This week I went to Gilpin Court where I got this smile.

So far it's been four weeks and I found that people are very slow to give up a smile.
Maybe they're skeptical of a man coming around with camera, wondering what my motives are. People today are socially guarded, and some with good reason. The real heroes are those who are not afraid to let their social walls come down and communicate.

Maybe in the upcoming weeks I will bring along a friend or two to ease peoples apprehensions.

Anybody Want To Join ME?

Week 3- July 21, 2012 - Just getting off of vacation

Not too hot to Smile. I talked to these three coming from Mosby Court, they were trying to stay cool by getting popsicles from the conner store.

Week 2 July 9, 2012- Every smile has a story

I met Barbara in Churchill near 25th Street. She told me that she was hungry and had no food. She has to wait until tomorrow for her next meal, when the shelter opens to give her a meal. She also explained that she was missing most of her front teeth. Even with that, and in this heat, she gave me her best smile.

Day One - It Has Begun

Day one - A Smile is hard to come by in this area.
I met Casper on the corner of Mosby St. and Venable st. in Church Hill. I walked around that area for about 30 minutes before anyone would allow me to take their picture. I got many sour looks, several "I don't Smile"answers, and at least three "I need to get to the dentist first"(They were completely serious. Healthcare is a true struggle for that community).
